Iran or Persia: Land of The Aryans

Iran, also known as Persia officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia, the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and Azerbaijan; with Kazakhstan and Russia across the Caspian Sea; to the northeast by Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Turkey and Iraq. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195 km2, it is the second-largest nation in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world; with 78.4 million inhabitants, Iran is the world's 17th most populous nation. It is the only country that has both a Caspian Sea and Indian Ocean coastline. Iran has been of geo strategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia and Western Asia and the Strait of Hormuz. The Capital and largest city is Tehran. The Currency is Rial (﷼) (IRR).

1. Approximately 70% of Iran’s population is under the age of 30.

2. An Iranian organization offered a reward of $3 million to anyone who killed Salman Rushdie, the author of The Satanic Verses. The book hinted that some of the verses of the Koran might not be real revelations from God and that the devil disguised himself to give Mohammed false ideas.

3. The Persian cat is one of the world’s oldest breeds. They originated in the high plateaus of Iran where their long silky fur protected them from the cold. Italian traders brought the breed to Europe in the 17th century, where they became an exotic status symbol.

4. Iran has one of the only condom factories in the Middle East.

5. In 2007, Iran produced the world’s largest handmade carpet for a masjid in the United Arab Emirates. It was the size of a soccer field.

6. Iran ranks second in the world in natural gas and third in oil reserves.

7. In spite of fierce competition, Persian rugs are still the best rugs in the world.

8. Iran has world’s best caviar.

9. Iran’s Mausoleum of Mausoleums was identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

10. Only country to have purchased F-14 Tomcats from US.
